Tayler Ashton, Soprano

From an early age, Tayler understood music as more than performance — it was language, memory, and inheritance. Raised with a deep awareness of music’s emotional and cultural power, she began singing in childhood and gradually shaped that instinct into disciplined classical study.

Her repertoire spans Romantic art song, Classical opera, French mélodie, American song, and Russian art song, with works by Rossini, Gluck, Bizet, Mozart, Copland, and Rachmaninoff.

Her performances of La Separazione and Adieux de l’hôtesse arabe earned Third Place in the Adult Category at the 2024 NATS Maryland/DC Auditions.

Alongside her classical training, Tayler draws deeply from the tradition of Negro spirituals as an ode to her Southern roots and heritage. For her, these works are not separate from conservatory study but integral to it — expressions of resilience, faith, and collective memory that inform her interpretive depth across all repertoire. She approaches art song and spirituals alike with an emphasis on text, breath-driven legato, and emotional clarity.

Beyond the stage, Tayler shares her musical growth and love for the arts with her local church community and mentors her younger niece in foundational musicianship and vocal exploration. She believes music is most powerful when it circulates — from teacher to student, from stage to sanctuary, from lineage to new generation.

Grounded in both discipline and heritage, Tayler approaches classical voice as craft, stewardship, and living testimony.
